Grocery Shopping

The “super mercado” in SJDS is called Pali and is located just outside of town.  There you can find most of things that you will need under one convenient roof.  However, it can be quite busy with narrow aisles and long lines.  Another approach is to shop at specialty markets in town for most items and use Pali to find the odds and ends to complete your list.

Below are the specialty stores that we recommend you check out.  While most places will accept USD, we recommend having a healthy supply of cordobas when you shop.

Fresh Produce

  • Guevara Fruits & Vegetables
  • Municipal Market

Meat

  • Carnes San Martin #1
  • Carnes San Martin #2

Fish

  • Seafood Market (at the Port)

Bread & Baked Goods

  • Pan Frances
  • Hotel Estrella (bakery is adjacent to hotel entrance)

Other

  • Miscelania Sanchez (US/Canada imported goods such as wine & cheese)
  • AMPM (convenience store)

  • IKAL
  • La Tostaderia
  • Peace & Cake [out of town]

  • Wrap N’ Roll

  • Dale Pues
  • El Buen Gusto
  • La Cascada [located on the property of Pelican Eyes]
