Beaches
Playa Remanso is the premiere beach near San Juan del Sur.
Playa Maderas attracts the San Juan’s intermediate and experienced surfers.
With a public volleyball net, taco shacks for refreshments, chairs/umbrellas available for rent, and plenty of surfing to watch on the horizon, Maderas is one of the best spots for a beach day. However, be careful when swimming, as Maderas is known for its rip tides.
Playa Hermosa was introduced to the area as the location for Survivor’s Season 21.
Since then, it has become known as one of the most beautiful beaches in Nicaragua.

Athletics
There are two pickleball courts near SJDS.
The closest court is located in La Talanguera and costs $11/hour. Reservations must be made in advance online via their Facebook page.
The other court is located in Escamaquito and has a lovely cafe the premise that serves oven baked pizza.
